Great Reno Balloon Race (2013)   Leave a comment

I have been going to the Great Reno Balloon Race since 1997. I have only been photographing it since 2013. If any of you ever get the chance, I recommend that you come and see it. It is fun and if you don’t mind the crowds you can check out what I call “The Pit”. It is where you can be up close with the balloons and pilots. It’s interesting to me that this is an event that, Mother Nature is totally in charge of it. High winds, no wind, rain, and thunder-lightning can have a detrimental effect on the event. Here is a link with all the information about the event; Great Reno Balloon Race

I shoot my photos from the hills near “The Pit” because I have the superzoom on my camera. I am at my spot to shoot from at 4 a.m., to set up for the 3 events of the morning for me. The Super Glow Show at 5 a.m., the Dawn Patrol at 5:30 a.m., and the Mass Ascension Launch at 7 a.m. I will warn you though, that in all the years I have been attending, it is rare that these events of the day happen on time. I usually have a large thermos of hot coffee, donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and music on my phone to entertain me. I keep telling myself that patience is still a virtue. The wait though is always worth it for me.

Thank you for visiting my site. Enjoy, your upcoming week.
