This morning was an extremely clear sky morning for here. It was cold and the air was crisp. I didn’t even smell the fireplaces burning.

With that clear sky though the sun diffuses while rising. In order to get the outline of the sun I played with the exposure bias on my camera. I think you will notice which ones but if you don’t that’s O.K. too.

Sunrise Walk: 01/27/2012

This morning gave me more than could ask for. Not only was it a beautiful sunrise but the Ravens were in abundance. I even caught a couple geese in flight.

I also took some shots during the sunrise in black and white. A couple turned out very interesting with the Ravens and I cropped the pictures so that the Ravens were more visible than in the original. I left the sun bright and diffused because it seemed more dramatic.

Sunrise Walk but no sunrise today 01/26/2012

When I walked out the door it was completely overcast, but when I got to the sidewalk, I was pleased that the horizon looked as if it had a narrow band that was clear and streaked with clouds like yesterday. My vantage point to shoot from is about a mile away.

When I started walking there was no wind. Halfway there it picked up so that there was only a light breeze. I could see the horizon then and the band of clear and cloudy sky was smaller. As I got to my shooting point the wind had picked up and closed that band. It was gone. I stood there looking at the gray clouds. I was disappointed but not upset. I have had so many unobstructed sunrises, what right do I have to complain.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and focused my mind on those sunrises. I can’t show you what I saw in my mind but I can share my archive from 10/24/2011.

The sunrise was spectacular this morning. As you will see there is still some lasting puddles remaining from the rain. I don’t have much to say this morning so I will let the photographs say my thousand words.

Sunrise Walk: 01/24/2012

Hoorah! I have two things to cheer about. The sunrise was beautiful and I completed the first draft of my seventh manuscript.

Now to todays photographs. The fog was in but was clearing as I took these shots, as you will see. There was some smog too. The clouds against the Sierra’s were diffusing the sun pretty good but it was great for some interesting photographs. I played with the exposure on some of them, but I’m not telling.

It was raining this morning so coincidently there was no visible sunrise. We need the rain in Northern California so I am fine with it. I need to get some other things done.

Sunrise walk without the sunrise

When I first walked out the door and looked down my street there was some clear sky on the horizon. By the time I got to where I wanted to take pictures the wind had picked up and that clear sky disappeared in less than a minute. I was disappointed but not so much as to not take photographs at all.
